Grant Writer and Fundraiser (Special Opportunity) 
 

Vancouver ecoVillage (VE) is looking for a Grant Writer, who will be primarily responsible for developing and writing grant proposals to foundations and other grant-making organizations and will persuasively communicate VE’s mission and programs to potential funders.

 

The Grant Writer will research, write, and prepare grant proposals and reports that align with VE’s mission. The candidate is requested to have his/her own laptop and communications tools.

 

Most importantly, you will be helping a Non-Profit Charitable Organization work towards its mission to provide therapeutic services for people with disabilities, illness or other challenges.

 

VE works closely with vulnerable people. Applicants may need to submit to a criminal record check (free to all applicants).

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Proactively seek opportunities and manage own time reporting to Senior Director.

  • Responsible for executing the preparation and submission of grant proposals based on granter’s guidelines.

  • Maintain a sound knowledge of the organization's mission, program, target population and strategic vision. Use this information to better prepare proposals and other written communications.

  • Include budgets and necessary supporting materials.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • At least two years successful nonprofit grant writing experience. If little or no experience, then writing must be overseen by a university program supervisor.

  • Prior experience in writing successful grants and reports; other fundraising experience is useful.

  • Writing ability including competent degree of spelling, grammar, and editing skills; effective business, technical and persuasive writing styles.

  • Knowledge of the grant writing and reporting processes.

  • Exceptional written communication skills.

  • Superior proof-reading, information gathering and listening skills.

  • Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Therapy Dog Trainer (Unique Opportunity) 
 

Vancouver ecoVillage (VE) is looking for a professional and experienced dog trainer to work with our new therapy dogs in basic obedience training.

 

Agility training will NOT be required but we will be looking to reinforce more basic commands such as SIT, DOWN, HEEL, LEAVE IT, BACK, TURN and teach some simple dog tricks.

 

You will coach, encourage and motivate dogs and handlers and have a strong ability to inspire others. You must be committed to and show a genuine interest in enhancing communication and teamwork between dog and handler by rewarding success while providing a fun and safe environment for dogs, handlers and volunteers.

 

You will also promote established safety and prevention procedures. Community outreach responsibilities may include visiting veterinarians and participating in events.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Must have CGN teaching or equivalent. Police dog trainers are welcome to apply.

  • Must have great people skills to help handlers significantly improve their relationships with their dogs.

  • Must be able to do group and private classes and do demonstrations at lectures and events.

  • Must be willing to follow instructions from our senior therapy dog trainers.

  • Must be willing to travel within the city to Kerrisdale, Downtown or Collingwood.

 

 

Public Relations Specialist (Special Opportunity) 

 

You have diverse communications experience, with social media, events and promotions and are looking for an exciting opportunity to apply your skills to help a Non-Profit Charitable Organization work towards its mission to provide therapeutic services for people with disabilities, illness or other challenges.

 

Vancouver ecoVillage (VE) has an exciting volunteer opportunity for a Public Relations Specialist.

 

The Public Relations Specialist plays an essential role to drive our public visibility, engage Canadians and shine the spotlight on our work. Reporting to the Executive Director, this position is part of a dynamic team committed to raising awareness about our four programs and therapeutic services.

 

Versatile, creative and committed to excellence, the Public Relations Specialist must be driven by a deep personal drive to succeed. In this role, you will be given the tools and materials to convey an incredible story. We count on you to get it out and to use whatever public relations tactics you deem necessary to do so. You will develop extensive relations with relevant media organizations and expand these in ways of your choosing to grow our visibility.

 

The ideal candidate is a highly motivated self-starter and strategic thinker who has demonstrated experience in media relations, promotion or marketing initiatives. Working knowledge of national media, social media tools and exceptional project management skills are required. Experience with a media agency is a definite asset.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • University degree or registered in university courses in journalism, marketing, communications or related field

  • Professional experience in marketing/communications for a corporation or nonprofit organization is an asset

  • Proven ability to write clear, concise and compelling prose - articles, press releases, op-eds, ad copy, blog posts and email alerts etc.

  • First-hand experience using social media

  • Solid copy-editing skills, strong attention to detail

  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite; Photoshop, InDesign, Adobe Illustrator an asset

  • Highly organized and works well independently

  • Adaptable and flexible to evolving work requirements

  • Willingness and ability to travel within Greater Vancouver, sometimes on short notice

  • Dynamic presentation and facilitation skills and experience in community building on and offline through events, trainings, campaigns etc.
